CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM-- When a person thinks about something he wants his body to undertake, the central nervous system-- the brain and the spinal cord-- sends out a signal to that portion of the physical body. Alcohol hinders the central nervous system, making the person think, converse, and move slower.

FRONTAL LOBES -- The human brain's frontal lobes are essential for organizing, forming concepts, making decisions, and employing self-control.

Once alcohol impairs the frontal lobes of the human brain, a person might find it tough to manage his or her feelings and urges. The individual might act without thinking or may even become violent. Drinking alcohol over an extended period of time can injure the frontal lobes forever.

HIPPOCAMPUS-- The hippocampus is the part of the brain in which memories are created.
When alcohol reaches the hippocampus, an individual may have difficulty recollecting a thing he or she just learned, like a name or a telephone number. This can happen after just a couple of alcoholic beverages.
